There's a ton of ways you could respond - e.g., going feudal pressure, booming yourself, or going castle/relics. If your opponent is going 2TC, you'll need to have a plan to answer their eco lead. For example, eco timers, military advantage timers, sacred timers. Recognize when you are on a timer and respond.If possible, try to force an encounter so that they can't take advantage of their new age military upgrades. All else being equal - if you see your opponent is aging up, you know they've invested resources into the age up that could have gone into army. Try to force encounters with your opponent when they're most vulnerable.It's important that you avoid fights if you're in the process of aging up, as getting the unit upgrades are extremely valuable for your army quality. Try not to punt your army if you're aging up.So if you can control the map, or have advanced notice through vision, you won't be scrambling around trying to chase knights around your base. The key concept is: it typically requires MORE APM to properly respond to a raid than to conduct the raid. so you can always see incoming raids will dramatically lower your APM burden. Walling/keeping off the map, and towers for vision, etc. Map control makes your life much easier.Controlling the middle thus can control access to all of the gold. Also recognize that certain maps have limited "safe" resources - for example, Hill and Dale has all gold in the middle now after the initial starter gold. Position your army if possible to fight over those resources. For example, denying French gold, or English wood can be especially valuable. Recognize what resource your opponent wants and try to deny it. Denying your opponent even one resource can chokehold them. Don't blindly follow your initial plan - adapt. You may learn during the course of the game that your plan is no longer viable. Out-eco your opponent? All-in feudal? Execute said plan. You should go into a matchup with a plan as to how you are going to win. Questions you should be answering with your scout include: what is my opponent’s army comp? Is my opponent going multiple TCs/trade? Are they aging up? Where is their eco at? Your scout should basically always be moving around. I’ve ordered them below by ease of implementation (easy to harder). The below tips are intended towards newer players, and will be obvious to anyone at Diamond and above. I started with zero RTS experience a year ago and now am ~ C2.
